To advance discoveries leading to the prevention, treatment, or cure of ischemic cardiovascular disease including atherosclerosis and its complications in the heart (myocardial infarction/heart failure) or limb (peripheral artery disease/critical limb ischemia). Through a multidisciplinary approach using human sample sets and experimental disease models, we have identified specific non-coding RNAs (microRNAs and lncRNAs) and transcription factors that control vascular inflammation and angiogenesis relevant to the development of vascular disease states such as atherosclerosis, myocardial injury, diabetes, wound healing, and sepsis. We aim to understand and translate these discoveries to improve the lives burdened with these diseases.
